The Library Self-Assessment is a series of simple, self-administered tools that ask public libraries to indicate their current status on several indicators of strong public libraries. Responses provide each public library with a snapshot on indicators of organizational health. They will also be valuable to the library districts for future planning and library development. These self-assessments are not designed as grading tools, but are intended as planning tools to help libraries be viable, integral, and proactive organizations in their community.
Library Self-Assessment: Collections
This tool focuses on the physical and digital materials that patrons can browse in-house or borrow by using their library card.
For each item, please select the response that closely relates to your library.
Not at this time - This could mean that the library does not have this at this time or it may not be relevant to your library's situation.
More information, please - Your district consultant will reach out to talk more about this topic and share any resources or information they may have available. This could also be an option if your library is unsure of how to respond.
Working on it - Your library may not be where it wishes to be with this, but it's aware and making efforts to get where it would like to be.
Provided by another organization - This could be something available at your library, but it's facilitated by at least one other organization such as your system, district, or community partner.
To the best of our knowledge - There may be laws that the library is unaware of or that have changed. This acknowledges that the library is achieving the task based on the information it possesses.
Yes - Your library feels it is currently achieving the task. Please Note: Depending on a Yes response, some questions may have follow-up questions for more detail or higher level services.
Comment boxes - At the end of the Essential and Recommended sections, there are comment boxes. Feel free to provide any additional information to questions above or questions that your library may have that will help your library remember this snapshot in time and help your district consultant to get a better understanding of your library's situation.
Work through the questions, then submit your responses. Your self-assessment will be sent to the e-mail address listed below as well as to the SNOE Consultants. While the SNOE Consultants are using the aggregate data for district and regional development, it will be your district consultant who will review the responses for feedback and reach out to see if the library would like to discuss the assessment further.
